Latest Title Showcases Strange Flavour’s Revolutionary New IAP called “Play Nice” Preventing Players From Accidentally Overspending

On 12th February, Strange Flavour will launch its latest game, the “endless crasher” Any Landing,  for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad.  This is a crashtacular game of airborne mayhem that comes from the creators of the Number One iPhone games Flick Fishing and SlotZ Racer, Mac games such as Airburst Extreme and the Apple Design Award winning ToySight .

In Any Landing, you are a pilot working for a very low-budget, cheapskate airline run by a dodgy miserly airline boss. Your aircraft always breaks down, your engines are forever burning out meaning you have to keep crash landing your planes. Not only that but a rival air company, Evil Air, are doing their level best to keep you out of the skies. Your mission is to try keep your passengers happy and your aircraft flying!

SOME OF THE MANY FEATURES OF ANY LANDING

  • Fly through 32 levels over 4 different air routes!
  • Crash-land your plane, plunder luggage for  souvenirs and rescue cute kittens!
  • Unlock and fly 8 different aircraft and avoid been knocked out of the sky by the nefarious Evil Air!
  • Use lots of different upgrades to improve your aircraft and fly further!
  • Complete bonus VIP missions for extra rewards!
  • iCloud save game syncing
  • Game Center Leaderboards and Achievements
  • MOGA ACE™ POWER Controller Support (as well as any other Made For iOS controllers).

playnice1Strange Flavour are using Any Landing to introduce their new IAP System called Play Nice ( playnice.strangeflavour.com) which allows players to accelerate their gameplay with In-App Purchases, but doesn’t allow them to accidentally overspend.

Unlike other IAP-based systems, Play Nice always has an “All you can eat” option that permanently unlocks all optional content. What’s more, when a player purchases any of the lower priced content, the cost of that is taken off the price of the “All You Can Eat”  item meaning they’ll never pay more than a fixed amount. Once the player has purchased All You Can Eat, it’s theirs permanently.

It is hoped the Play Nice system will allow players to enjoy the games they want, the way they want, without accidentally racking up huge bills while at the same time, allowing the developers to still make a living.

CEO and Lead Coder Aaron Fothergill explains, “In-App Purchase is a very useful feature that has recently been somewhat abused in games. Strange Flavour wants to play nice and help rebuild the players’ trust.”

And as the old saying goes, “Any Landing you can walk away from is a good landing!”

Any Landing will be available for Free on the App Store, 12th February. The Universal App, requires iOS 6 and above.

About Strange Flavour

Strange Flavour Ltd. is a small UK based independent games developer run by two brothers, Aaron and Adam Fothergill who have nearly 50 years of combined experience in the games industry.

After taking the Mac world by storm with their award winning games Airburst Extreme and ToySight, Strange Flavour have been creating hit iPhone games, including Flick Fishing, published through Freeverse, which was one of the top selling iPhone games of all time and the #1 slot car racing game SlotZ Racer.

Strange Flavour are now publishing their own iPhone games on the App Store, starting with SlotZ Racer 2 and SlotZ Racer Caterham Special.

For the physicists…

Strange Flavour is named after a sub-atomic particle called a quark. Quarks come in various flavours, such as up,down and rather interestingly, ‘strange’. As has been pointed out to us by some of the physicists out there, there are more than the 4 original flavours of quark than we first believed (I did my physics a *long* time ago). They’re probably adding new flavours of them to compete with the new ones that the fizzy drinks companies are marketing.

Strange Flavour Releases Apple Bob

First time publisher and longtime games developer Strange Flavour will be releasing Pixel Pyro’s new game Apple Bob on the iPhone and iPad on Thursday 26th September.

Evil Corp’s gloopers have captured all the bees and it’s up to you, as the game’s feisty protagonist Dash, to save them. Enjoy a good old-fashioned bout of platforming fun as you jump and dash through 100 levels of glorious hand drawn, high-resolution retina artwork using ridiculously easy-to-learn controls.

Apple Bob is created by Pixel Pyro, a company that comprises the talented Coder/Designer/Tea Boy Jim Bagley and accomplished Artist Paul Vera-Broadbent (we call him “Pab”). Jim and Pab have been writing great video games since the 8-bit days and Apple Bob is their latest wonderful fun fruity creation.

Jim Bagley explains, “Apple Bob has been a long time coming. It’s a complete re-invention of a game idea I came up with back in 1995 on the Megadrive. We’d like to give huge thanks to Aaron and Adam at Strange Flavour, as they have given us the opportunity to bring Dash to life and release it for iOS devices”.

Apple Bob is being released as an iPhone version for $0.99 and Apple Bob HD which is a universal version with extra high resolution artwork for the retina iPads for $2.99. Apple Bob, of course, has also been written for iOS 7 and will support the new MFi controllers (just as soon as we can get some to test with!).

Strange Flavour Pay It Forward By Publishing Other Developers’ Games

When Aaron and Adam Fothergill started Strange Flavour Ltd. in 2004, it was with the help of the Lynch Smith brothers’ company Freeverse as their publisher.
Since then, Strange Flavour has gone on to write games for the Mac, XBox 360 and of course the iPhone, published through Freeverse and, more recently, released under their own Strange Flavour label on the App Store.

From the help they had, they now aim to pay it forward by publishing other developers’ games on the iOS and Mac App Stores, starting with Pixel Pyro and their upcoming first iOS game, Apple Dash.

Like Strange Flavour, Pixel Pyro are a two-man team comprising Coder/Game Designer Jim Bagley and Artist Paul Vera-Broadbent (otherwise known as Pab). As well as technical and management help, Strange Flavour’s Adam Fothergill has also created the music and sound effects for Apple Dash.

Strange Flavour’s CEO and Lead Coder Aaron Fothergill said “We benefited massively from Ian and Colin’s experience and knowledge in publishing our games and we’re hoping to pay some of that help forwards to other games developers.”

Apple Dash will be available on the App Store on Sept 26th.

SlotZ Racer 2

Press Release

There’s SlotZ More Racing Fun As Strange Flavour Releases SlotZ Racer 2 On Thursday 31st January 2013

SlotZ Racer 2 is Strange Flavour’s long-awaited sequel to their Number One slot car racing game hit SlotZ Racer. As well as boasting 25 different cars and bikes and a whopping 31 tracks, SlotZ Racer 2 also has a built in track editor so that players can create their own tracks, share them with friends and race around them with custom tuned and painted cars.

Aaron Fothergill , Managing Director and Lead Coder, said “SlotZ Racer has always had a great fanbase and we’ve been wanting to give them a new version for a couple of years. SlotZ Race 2 was the obvious game to write to launch Strange Flavour’s new venture into self publishing.”

SlotZ Racer 2 has been completely re-written by Strange Flavour (creators of Flick Fishing, SlotZ Racer, Warpack: Grunts) and is released under their own label as a free game. Fans of the original can upgrade and play the new version whilst new players can jump in straight away and get racing!

For those racers that want to maximise their thumb-controlled horsepower, SlotZ Racer 2 has two different car packs available for in-game purchase. The Racer Pack comprises a set of cars that includes vintage racers, a hot rod and even a flying car! The Caterham Pack includes the full set of Caterham Cars’ ultralight sports cars from the simple, but fast, Roadsport, to the amazing SP/300.R track car and even the latest R600 Ultralight sports car.

Both of these packs unlock SlotZ Racer 2’s built in Car Editor and Pro Tune features so that players can customise all of their cars with new paint schemes and upgraded components, as well as unlocking the full SlotZ Track Server so that they can browse and download all the tracks that have been shared, including hundreds that have already been designed

Players with the original SlotZ Racer on their iOS device get a special bonus! If SlotZ Racer 2 detects the original version of the game, among other things,  a unique car is unlocked, just for being brilliant 🙂

SlotZ Racer 2 will be available in the iTunes App Store on Thursday 31st January 2013.
